Matthew Mitcham: Australian Gay Olympic Gold Medallist

Matthew Mitcham, born in 1988 in Brisbane (Australia), is the 2008 Olympic champion in the 10 meter platform. He is the first Australian male to win an Olympic gold medal in diving since Dick Eve at the 1924 Summer Olympics.

He usually lives and trains in Sidney,  and he openly came out as gay in 2008 to the Sydney Morning Herald's article. After 2008 Olympics, he became one of the most beloved and influential gays in Australia.

Besides great diver, he has also been model for Funky Trunks, appearing on advertising world campaign in 2010.

In 2012, Matt confessed in his autobiography that he had been addicted to methamphetamine in 2011 and how he recovered with the help of Narcotics Anonymous. That is surely the most important victory of his career.

After that troublesome episode, in December 2011 he returned to racing and won Australian 10 meter platform, and he has continued his career.

Certainly, he is an example of effort, struggle and overcoming. He has won in and out of the pool.

Hurrah for this nice guy!

Career Highlights:
  • 1 gold medal at 2008 Summer Olympic Games, in Beijing (China)
  • 4 silver medals at 2010 Commonwealth Games, in Delhi (India)
  • 4th at 2009 World Aquatics Championships, in Rome (Italy)
Recent performances in 10 m platform:
  • 7th at 2012 Fort Lauderdale Grand Prix, in Fort Lauderdale (USA)
  • 13th at 2012 FINA World Cup, in London (UK)
  • 1st at 2012 Australian Open Championships, in Adelaide (Australia)

President Obama was Sworn in for Second Term as US President

Barack Obama was sworn in for a second term as president of the United States today. With one hand on the bible of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, clamped by his wife Michelle, and in front of hundreds of thousands of people who had gathered to the Capitol since the early hours of the morning with temperatures near zero degrees, Obama has taken office for four more years.

After being sworn in, Obama delivered a moving speech in which he appealed for unity and equality of all Americans: "Now, more than ever, we need to move together as a people and a nation"
. Also, President Obama has
invoked full equality for gay Americans: "Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law". Probably, they have been two of the most important phrases of reelected president's speech.

Reached 5.000 views!

Last November 19th I published my first post to announce that Ryce and I had been partnered. After almost two months, I've sent 85 posts and my blog has had 5.000 views.

I have to admit that I'm pleasantly surprised because I didn't expect anyone could be interested in my posts. In the early I only thought posting photos about Ryce and me, but I also like to talk about people and places of Second Life and other people and real events too.

I have to thanks all of you, all my readers and followers, because your interest and comments make me continue and want to improve. But this wouldn't have been possible without the encouragement and support of my husband Ryce. Love you!

...5.000 THANKS !!!!

The Aquila Ancient Market is finished!

I've just finished building my last creation: The Aquila Ancient Market, for Second Life.

This market has eight different stalls. You can find:
  •  A greengrocer stall, with several fruits and vegetables.
  •  A fish shop stall, with some fishes and seafood.
  •  A butchery stall, with different meats.
  •  A wine shop stall, with amphora and barrels of good wines.
  •  A bakery stall, with several breads.
  • An armory stall, wiht swords, spears, shields and one grinder.
  • And a pair of empty stalls where you can sale other products.

I've used ancient paintings to decor stalls, and realistic textures to make the different goods.

This ancient market is available in Second Life Marketplace Web, you can get all of them or each stall individually.

Enjoy it!

Illinois could become the 10th state in the USA to legalize same-sex marriage

The Illinois Senate Executive Committee has passed the bill for same-sex marriage and sent it to the full state's Senate. If the measure becomes law, Illinois could become the 10th state in the USA to legalize marriage equality.

Today, Illinois recognizes same-sex unions as civil unions after being approved on January 2011. About public opinion, in November 2012, a Public Policy Polling survey found that 47% of Illinois voters were in favor of same-sex marriage, 42% were opposed and 11% were not sure. One of the main supporters is President Obama who has urged lawmakers of his home state to approve this law.

Now we just wait for the final vote.

Same-Sex Marriage in the rest of the World

After analyzing the same-sex marriage in USA and Europe, the situation of marriage equality in the rest of the world is on January 2013 the next one: only three countries have legalized the same sex-marriage. They are: Canada, Argentina and South Africa.

On same date, in the following countries or part of them have legalized the same-sex civil unions or they grant them some rights. They are: Brazil, Mexico, Greenland, Israel, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay, New Zealand, Australia, Aruba, Curaçao and Sin Maarten. Also Mérida, state of Venezuela, recognizes same-sex civil unions in its jurisdiction.

In the rest of the countries of the world, the same-sex marriage or same-sex civil unions are not legally recognized or directly banned.
