Over 60 gay couples will tie the knot in a mass gay wedding in Puerto Rico this weekend. Same-sex couples from Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Venezuela are reported to be taking part.
The ceremonies, taking place in Puerto Rico´s capital of San Juan, are endorsed by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and the city of San Juan.
Officiants from almost all religious denominations, as well as secularists and humanists have been brought together to legally formalize the marriages of the same-sex couples who take part in this mass wedding.
Back in June, Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla made the announcement that Puerto Rico would honor the verdict of the U.S. Supreme Court and follow Guam in becoming a U.S. overseas territory that allows gay marriage.
Last July, a panel of judges with the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Puerto Rico’s same-sex marriage ban was unconstitutional.
Congrats to all newlyweds!
